How to get the Firefox 4.0 Theme
You may have seen the new designs for the latest FireFox editions. I thought they looked pretty awesome so I went about to try and change them, here below is my final tutorial which was inspired by other tutorials.
Time: 10mins
What You Will Need:
- Vista/7 (XP doesn’t look as good)
- Firefox 3.5 (here)
- Firefox 3.7/4.0 Theme (3.7 here) (4.0 here) (download both and decide which you prefer)
- Glasser Extension (here)
- Personal Menu (here)
- Stylish (here)
Once you have downloaded the things you need, you are ready to start!
1. Install Firefox 3.5
2. Open up both theme folders and drag the “firefox-3.7…. jar” files into your: Tools > Addons > Themes folder. You should then have two themes.
3. Once the themes are installed, install (or enable) the “Personal Menu” and “Stylish” Extensions from the links above.
4. Once installed, choose the theme you want to use (I’m using 3.7 as I prefer how it looks) and click restart FireFox. It should look a bit like this:
5. Now you can move things about and make them look better! Here is what I will do, these steps aren’t necessary but will give the best effect!
- Right click on the toolbar and click Customize. Then move the refresh button to the right of the address bar like on the photo below.
- Right click on the toolbar and untick “Menus Toolbar” and “Bookmarks Toolbar
6. Now we are ready to install “Glasser” It should look like this below. (Press ALT to show the menu bar)
7. Now for the final tweaks. Go to your folder (3.7/4.0 Theme folder) there should be some glasser fixes. Open them up and copy the text. Then right click on the Stylish icon in the bottom corner of Firefox and click “Write New Style > Blank Style”. Paste it in and give it a title. It should then be enabled.
Also if you want the icons in the Bookmark toolbar to be less spaced add this code into a style:
————————————————————————
@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
toolbarbutton.bookmark-item {
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px !important;
}
————————————————————————
8. Also if the “Tools” and “Bookmarks” icons haven’t appeared, just right click the toolbar > customize and drag them in the corner like in the picture below.
TwitterFox Errors!
“I have a black bar from the glasser extension in firefox from twitterfox, how can I fix it?”
9. If you use TwitterFox, you are sure to get this black box error (see below)
But don’t worry, it can be fixed!
Go to start > and search “ %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ ” and click the link which comes up.
Then go to:
Extensions > allglassv2@am… > Chrome > Content
Right click on here and press “Save As” and save it to the desktop. Drag this new file into the folder we just went to and overwrite. Restart FireFox and it should work!
You should have a fresh look to your FireFox browser, which is much better looking than chrome and IE8!
Also add, you don’t have to remove your bookmarks toolbar, I use mine:
