40 Days of Blog – David Day 35
So it’s Davids blog… yay.
You may have noticed that the site has got a new addition to its vast array of excellent pages. (cough).
This page is the Revision Page…
Seeing as it’s our GCSE’s coming up very shortly I decided to have a revision page with: Past Papers, Usefull Sites and Coursework Guides. It’s currently being edited, and will be continue to be edited during the next few weeks, so be sure to check it out by… Clicking the Revision Link (in the Header) or by going to… www.theTechLife.co.uk/Revision !
If you want to hear some weird (and rude) words being called out, visit this crazy site.
SWEARING ALERT! > Site

Todays talk is about communication and alerts…
My interesting feauture of the day is: RSS feeds, this is a little application which records when new blogs, posts, headlines etc are posted. Then it lists them and shows them to the viewer in many different forms. To get RSS feeds you need to find a website which produces them, for example:
![]()
If you Click the orange icon, you will then be able to add the feed to a feed reader. This program will then alert you (in whatever way it advertises) when ever that website produces a new post. They can be useful if you want to be alerted by news stories, you could subsribe to a news website (such as the bbc.co.uk).
Feed Readers:
There are many different feed readers, but my favourite are:
Streamy: A website where you sign in and it handles Feeds, blogs and things like Facebook. Check it out! (here) expect a review of it soon!
Streamy (click to enlarge)
Email: I use windows live mail. In the bottom left hand corner you can add feeds, just add the url and you are alerted (like an email) everytime they produce a new article or post.
Firefox Bookmark: My favourite, you just click the RSS link in firefox and you can add it to your toolbar (see diagram)

This image shows the use of the Built in RSS reader
It appears in your bookmark toolbar as if you it’s a bookmark, but once you click on it, all the recent feeds (posts, articles etc) are shown.
Handy eh?
Google Reader: Many people use this, you simply add your feeds, and it displays them all like emails. There are many readers which are equivalent to google reader such as, Feed Demon and Newzcrawler.

I hope you enjoyed my small overview of RSS Feeds, if there is any incorrect data, please let me know!
The reason for me telling you is… My blog has a feed!
