Now onto a lighter note, I suggest you watch this video, it really is hilarious!
Video of the Day:
How a website works!
A simple, unnofficial guide..
1. First of all, to have your own website you need to buy your own “Domain Name” which is just the name of you website. Such as davidisonecoolandamazingkidwhoownsthetechlife.co.uk.
2. Once you have your name, you need to post it on the internet so others can view it. To do this you could use your computer to host the website, however it isn’t ideal as you would need your PC on 24/7 and people would know you IP address and could effectivly know where you live.
3. So the easy way to do this would be to pay someone, like a company to do this for you, with servers. You pay from £20 a year to £200 a year depending what you want. This covers the cost of the machines they use, and the electricity they use to run them.
4. You now need to make your website, you can use CMS (content management systems) to do it all for you, you just load a theme and some plugins and you have a very proffesional looking website. WordPress 2.7 is a very good CMS (in my opinion) but you could use Drupal or CMS made simple..
5. Or you could spend alot of time and make each page on programs such as Dreamweaver where you make your site using an interface similar to Publisher. Or you could go to the extremes and make the whole website fromm scratch in notepad! (I use wordpress 2.7, but edit alot of the files and templates in Dreamweaver, originally I used Dreamweaver and edited each file, but then I incorperated it into Drupal, then WordPress. Don’t ask why.)
6. To get your files to the internet you can use FTP programs which transfer you webpages to the website from your computer.
7. Once it’s up, tell everyone your website and advertise it everywhere!
Having websites tend to cost, this is what an average website would cost.
- Domain Name (.co.uk) – £6 (for 2 years)
- Hosting (cPanel with usual features with 1gb space…) – £35 (a year)
- Website Designer/Creater (if your lazy aha) – Upwards of £200 – £400!
You can see how much it can cost! For an average WordPress driven site (the best around in my opinion). I think for a .co.uk domain, with good hosting it could cost £45 year if you make it yourself..
So I propose to people who I know, sorry to the millions who read this blog, a website hosting deal!
If you want/have always wanted a Music, Tech, Blog, Forum, or an other kind of website, now is your chance!
So here’s my deal:
- .co.uk Domain Name
- 1 Year of cPanel Hosting (around 500mb + Unlimited mysql databases and emails)
- a WordPress 2.7 driven Website designed by me!
- Plugins such as, Stats, Ratings Polls and Subsribers…
