Skiing Blog:

Travelling

Waking up at 4am is never easy, but this morning was worse than ever. Not only was the temperature in the room 30degrees upwards during the night, the sound of a man walking past the corridor and the sound of my father rolling over kept me awake. After getting dressed and jumping in the taxi of the most boring driver in the world, we arrived at Birmingham airport at 5am, 2 hours before our flight. I was looking at the price of memory cards in one of the electrical supermarkets, preferably a 4gb sony duo card. These were priced at around £14 on Amazon, so I was expecting the same price in the shop. But no, the exact same card was £35. It really makes me wonder where they conjure these ridiculous prices from, the shop even claimed to be selling its products tax free!

Anyway, getting on the plane was nerve racking, considering a flight in America had crashed the previous day (Friday 13th..) and 50people were killed. And to make things even worse only a few hours earlier a plane had made an emergency landing at Heathrow.

Sneakily I recorded the landing and takeoff of the plane on my camera for my next video I had in mind (I know I’m sad..)

ummmm, lovely plane food…  At least Gavin and Stacey were on TV!

Geneva Airport

We arrived at 10, and we were on the coach for our transfer journey for 10.30, the thought of being able to ski that afternoon made me slightly excited. As usual my nerdy and sad mind took over and I recorded the whole of the 1h30 drive out of the window..

We arrived at around 12. Because the hotel we were staying at was in the middle of the mountain we had to leave the bus with our suitcases at the bottom of the ski slope.

Hotel is at the top of the cable car!

A rep told us to leave our bags outside the building and jump on the cable car; I wasn’t keen on this as I had things in my suitcase I didn’t want to lose. But everything turned out okay, and by 3pm we were on the slopes refreshing our memories on how to ski again. (I say everything turned out okay, but hiring our skis and boots was such a palaver).

Arriving back to the hotel was great, 2hours of free skiing was fantastic!

We had our afternoon tea and returned to our rooms. Paying £400 a night you do expect some things from a claimed “4 star hotel”. But there was: no free Wi-Fi, a very small room (see photos) 2 plugs for 3 of us, no hanging and drying space, no hairdryer, powerless shower… the list is endless.

Room for 3 people, no drying space! And corridor NOT cleaned as we walked into hotel.. (bad 1st impressions)

However I wasn’t too fussed to be honest, I was more bothered about this blinding headache I had from not wearing my sunglasses for one of the runs.

The evening meal was average. I say average as it was a buffet, as for some reason they weren’t serving it that night.

The chicken and mushroom pie was mediocre but as I say, you would expect more from this 4 star hotel.

Amazing View we had!

After tea I flopped into my bed at around 8.30 and slept through for 12hours…

(To be Continued…)

Now lets talk about things which are happening today..

  • Obama has announced the withdrawal of most US troops in Iraq by the end of August 2010
  • An octopus pulls a plug in an aquarium and floods the place! (read here)
  • Facebook has rogue applications (read here)
  • And I had a haircut.

Joke of the day:
This blonde decides one day that she is sick and tired of all the blonde jokes and how all blondes are perceived as stupid, so she decides to show her husband that blondes really are smart.

While her husband is off at work, she decides that she is going to paint a couple of rooms in the house.

The next day, right after her husband leaves for work, she gets down to the task at hand.

Her husband arrives home at 5:30 and detects the distinctive smell of paint. He walks into the living room and finds his wife lying on the floor in a pool of sweat.

He notices that she is wearing a ski jacket and a fur coat at the same time. He goes over and asks her if she is OK.

She replies, “Yes.”

He asks what she is doing.

She replies that she wanted to prove to him that not all blonde women are dumb and she wanted to do it by painting the house.

He then asks her why she has on a ski jacket and a fur coat.

She replies that she was reading the directions on the paint can and they said, “For best results, put on two coats.”
